Baye Hunter was born in Toronto, Canada in 1963. She has traveled, studied, lived and worked throughout Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. These experiences have given her a deep appreciation for the cultural and visual diversity of the world contributing greatly to the uniqueness and beauty of her work. She has been taking photographs, painting, drawing and sculpting since her teens. She has a degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor Degree in Education from Brock University (Ontario Teacher's Certificate) as well as a TESL Certificate from George Brown College. She has studied art at the Ontario College of Art and Toronto School of Art, as well as taken many studio courses with prominent Canadian artists.

Baye now resides on Toronto Island; a fifteen minute ferry ride from downtown Toronto. From this unique vantage point she keenly observes her surroundings and produces her collages, paintings and photographs. In particular, she enjoys creating pieces for people of their own houses.

An avid year-round cyclist, Baye looks for inspiration when cycling in the downtown neighbourhoods of Toronto. She has an intuitive sense of pleasing architecture and has produced beautiful renditions of houses from the Annex, Cabbagetown, Kensington Market, and of course, the Toronto Islands.

In the collages, Baye has developed a unique technique of layering Japanese papers to create a visual image. She combines Japanese papers with tissues, wrapping paper or newspaper, dying the papers or rubbing them with pastels or crayons to enhance the textures and pigmentation. By glazing a light layer of adhesive, spraying with a fixative and framing under glass, she ensures a lasting quality to the work.

She has shown at the Rectory Cafe on Ward's Island, The Annex Gallery, as well as the Distillery and Cabbagetown Outdoor Shows.
